Sierra Leone
In June of 2009, SunEPI went to Sierra Leone as part of a project with Light up the World (LUTW). LUTW is initiating a program to provide solar powered LED lighting in many educational facilities throughout the countryside, where there is no grid. Sierra Leone is still recovering from a terrible civil war that tore apart most of the infrastructure in their country. Even in the capital city, there is little power, and none of it is reliable.
During this initial visit, we conducted trainings and worked side-by-side with a local NGO in Sierra Leone who will be the continuing implementer for LUTW. Installations were completed at 4 school sites.
