Our involvement in Haiti began in 2007, when we participated in some energy assessments of health care energy systems country wide, with USAID. This initial assessment resulted in several training sessions and installations at 7 health care facilities in northern Haiti. Additionally, SunEPI has worked with Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF) and Partners in Health (PIH) in Haiti.

In August 2009, SunEPI began working with Tetra Tech (formerly PA Consulting) and USAID to implement a multi-country, multi-year program aimed at improving energy services for health care. The first target country is Haiti where we have greatly expanded our activities both in training and project implementations. In September 2009, SunEPI led a partnership with SELF, PIH, USAID, Solar Energy International (SEI), Tetra Tech, and SolarWorld to provide an intensive in-country training and the first solar powered hospital system for PIH in Haiti, at Boucancarre. In 2010, Project Engineers Christopher Freitas and Carol Weis continued the work that Walt Ratterman started.
